Claims:

“No Replacement Parts, No Hidden Costs”

Rubbish. Since you can’t replace the lamp, you have to chuck out the entire device after a certain amount of flashes. Not cost effective at all.

“Slide and Flash mode for more convenient application”

It takes ages to get larger surfaces done, since you have to wait a few seconds after every flash.Phillips Lumea review

“Suitable for a wide variety of hair and skin types”

Rubbish. Does not even work on brown hair, let alone dark blonde types.

“Cordless Convenience”

Sure, but it does need continuous charging (can’t even finish 1 body part without having to recharge).

“5 Adjustable Ligh Energy Settings”

What’s the use of 5 settings when even the strongest setting gives no effects?

“Adapted for safe use in the comfort of your own home”

Not quite. After 2 years of use (and after reading many dissatisfied customer reviews), the Lumea does absolutely nothing, especially when compared to the professional IPL machines used at your Dermatologist.

Update: After my massive Philips Lumea flop, I’m now testing the Iluminage Touch, the only FDA approved laser supposedly also effective for lighter hair and darker skin tones. It’s too early to discuss results, but compared to the Lumea, its ease of use is unbelievable!

Those still interested in buying this machine (hey, it may work better for real brunettes), can buy them here (UK) or here (USA), although I’d rather recommend the Iluminage for blonder types, and the Tria for people with darker hair (available here for USA and here for Europeans).
